Boards run parallel to deck length. This conservative count does not reuse offcuts across rows or design butt-joint support. Joists, fasteners, expansion details and structural suitability are excluded.

How this was calculated

Rows = ceil[(deck width + gap)/(actual board width + gap)], with matching units.

Pieces per row = ceil(deck length ÷ stock length).

Apply extra stock allowance and round up.

Formula and method

Rows = ceil[(deck width + gap)/(board width + gap)]. Multiply by stock pieces per row, apply allowance and round up.

Worked example

A 4 m width with 140 mm boards and 5 mm gaps needs 28 rows. One 5 m stock board per row and 10% extra give 31 boards.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool optimize offcuts?

No. It conservatively counts stock pieces in each row. Reusing offcuts, butt-joint support and a detailed fastening plan need a separate layout.
