Uses a constant running power and flat energy price. Standby loads, tiered tariffs, time-of-use pricing, demand charges, taxes and fixed fees need separate treatment.

How this was calculated

kWh = watts ÷ 1,000 × hours/day × days × duty fraction.

Energy charge = kWh × price per kWh.

Formula and method

Energy in kWh = watts ÷ 1,000 × daily hours × days × duty fraction. Multiply energy by the price per kWh.

Worked example

A 1,000 W appliance running four hours daily for 30 days uses 120 kWh at 100% duty. At 0.15 per kWh, the energy charge is 18 currency units.
