Two questions, one calculator
'How many business days between these dates?' and 'What date is N business days from now?' are the same arithmetic run in opposite directions. Both skip Saturdays and Sundays and, if you tick the option, US federal holidays observed on weekdays. The count excludes the start date and includes the end date by default — the reading used for 'within 10 business days' deadlines — and can include both ends for 'how many working days does this project span'.
The tables use September 10, 2026 as the start.

Adding business days to a date
Ten business days is two calendar weeks when no holiday intervenes; holidays push the date out a day each. Shipping estimates, court filing deadlines and payment terms ('net 10 business days') all work this way. Negative numbers count backwards.

US federal holidays, 2026
Eleven federal holidays. When one falls on a Saturday it is observed on the Friday before; on a Sunday, the Monday after. The calculator uses the observed dates. Many private employers observe fewer (Columbus Day and Veterans Day are often working days) and some add the day after Thanksgiving or Christmas Eve, so check your own calendar for contract deadlines.

Working days in a year
A year has 260 or 261 weekdays depending on where the weekends fall, and about 250 working days after federal holidays. That figure is the basis for converting an annual salary to a daily rate and for calculating leave entitlements.

Deadlines and conventions
Legal and commercial deadlines specify their counting rules. US federal court rules (FRCP 6) count every day including weekends for periods stated in days, but if the last day is a weekend or holiday the deadline moves to the next business day. Payment terms like 'net 30' are calendar days; 'business days' in shipping means the carrier's working days, which may exclude Saturday for some services and include it for others. When a deadline matters, confirm which convention applies; the calculator gives both the weekday-only and holiday-adjusted answers so either can be checked.
Other countries and custom holidays
The built-in holiday set is US federal. For other countries, or for a company calendar, count weekdays only and subtract your own holidays that fall on weekdays; the day counter's weekday count is the same starting point. In countries with a Friday–Saturday or Thursday–Friday weekend the weekday assumption itself changes and a manual adjustment is needed.
