Rent remaining in your monthly budget

  • Income after listed costs$1,700.00
  • Share of take-home income37.78%

A negative remaining amount means the planned costs already exceed income. This is a personal cash-flow budget, not a landlord qualification rule.

How this was calculated

Rent budget = take-home income − living expenses − debt − savings − utilities.

How rent budget is calculated

Subtract non-housing living expenses, required debt payments, savings and utilities from monthly take-home income. The rent ceiling cannot fall below zero; the unrounded balance still reveals a budget shortfall.

Worked example

$4,500 take-home income minus $1,600 living costs, $300 debt, $700 savings and $200 utilities leaves $1,700 for rent.
