Female: κ = 0.7, α = −0.241, factor = 1.012. Male: κ = 0.9, α = −0.302, factor = 1.

Convert creatinine in µmol/L to mg/dL by dividing by 88.4.

Formula and method

eGFR = 142 × min(SCr/κ,1)^α × max(SCr/κ,1)^−1.200 × 0.9938^age, multiplied by 1.012 for the female coefficient. κ is 0.7 for female and 0.9 for male; α is −0.241 or −0.302 respectively.

Worked example

For age 50, the male coefficient and standardized creatinine 1 mg/dL, the estimate is about 91.7 mL/min/1.73 m². Entering 88.4 µmol/L gives the same result.

Frequently asked questions

Does one eGFR result diagnose kidney disease?

No. Interpretation depends on persistence, urine findings, medical history and measurement limitations. Combined creatinine–cystatin C estimation is preferred when available, especially near important clinical thresholds.
