Army Body Composition Calculator

Calculate the Army’s current waist-to-height ratio from recorded measurements, with three-decimal truncation and the 0.550 threshold.

Uses Army Directive 2026-13’s WHtR model, not the former body-fat percentage equation. Enter measurements already taken and recorded under the official procedure; this tool does not apply tape-measure rounding, confirmatory assessment, medical exemptions or administrative decisions.

How this was calculated

Divide the recorded waist measurement by recorded height, using inches for both.

Keep the first three decimal places without rounding.

The current stated threshold requires a recorded ratio strictly below 0.550.

Formula and method

Recorded WHtR = recorded waist in inches ÷ recorded height in inches, truncated to three decimal places. Army Directive 2026-13 uses a threshold strictly below 0.550.

Worked example

A recorded waist of 35 inches and height of 70 inches yield 0.500. A ratio of 0.5498 is recorded as 0.549, not rounded to 0.550.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this not return body-fat percentage?

The current Army assessment uses WHtR instead of the former circumference-based body-fat method. This calculator assumes measurements already recorded under the official procedure; it does not determine administrative eligibility or exemptions.
