Precision: international and survey feet
Since 1959 the international foot has been exactly 0.3048 m, so 1 m is 3.280839895013123 ft. Multiplying by 3.28 reads 0.03% low; multiplying by 3.3 reads 0.58% high.
Older US land surveys used the survey foot, 1200/3937 m, which is about 2 parts per million longer. NIST retired it at the end of 2022. The difference is 0.6 µm per foot, which matters only over survey distances: across 1,000 km it adds up to about 2 m.
